Junior Battle of the Books! Team: Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library!

What is
Junior Battle of the Books?

Junior Battle of the Books is a summer reading program and competition for students entering 4th through 6th grade. Teams of kids read the five selected books (pictured below) and then compete over their knowledge of the books in a trivia contest.
2013 Junior Battle of the Books titles are:

Wonder by R.J. Palacio,

Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord,

Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

The Puzzling World of Winston Breen by Eric Berlin

The Shadows: (The Book of Elsewhere, vol. 1) by Jacqueline West

Through the fun and excitement of weekly team meetings and the final competition, kids improve their reading skills, mature in their choice of reading materials, and acquire a broader knowledge base of classic and contemporary literature. Even during the height of competition, kids will be encouraged to remember that our shared goals are to READ and HAVE FUN, not necessarily to win!

Beginning in June 2013, registered kids will form teams of three-five members. Each week, teams will meet together with Miss Katie at Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library for 60-90 minute "team meetings". Each team meeting will include a review books they have read, as well as fun games, activities, and unique social experiences related to the books.

Teams representing Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library will battle against teams from other libraries in a trivia competition at Center Court at The Mall at Steamtown on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 5:30pm. Families and friends are invited to attend. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

If you are interested in sharing good times and good books with good friends this summer, email Miss Katie at KWalsh@albright.org or call the library at 207-0764 for more information!
